I have a hodge-podge of fruit in my fridge this week, so.... I decided to make some fruit roll-ups.

I am making 6 different kinds. Here are the ingredients for each one.

I blended each set of ingredients in my blender.

1 apple, 2 cups fresh strawberries, 1/4 chia seeds, 1 kiwi, 2 tbsp Splenda* (I used Splenda to help cut the acidity of the kiwis)

1 cup fresh cranberries, 1 1/2 apples, 1 kiwi, 2 bananas, 2 tbsp chia seeds

2 kiwis, 1 apple, 1 cup fresh strawberries, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 cup fresh cranberries, 2 tbsp Splenda*

1/2 cup fresh cranberries, 2 kiwis, 2 cups fresh strawberries, 2 bananas, 2 tbsp chia seeds

2 apples, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp splenda*

5 ripe bananas, 1/2 cup almonds, 2 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder, 4 tbsp splenda*, 3 tbsp milled flax seed

They are all on different trays. Temp at 135 degrees. Will check after 4 hours to see if I can flip them so they get fully dehydrated on both sides.

See you in about 4 hours :)

Update: After 5 hours, they were still a little wet on the tops, so I left them in for a couple more hours. That seemed to do the trick. I flipped them all and left in for an hour or so longer (the Chocolate Banana Nut one took quite a bit longer - about 9 hours in total - but totally worth it!)

Dehydrating times may vary depending on your dehydrator, your climate and the moisture levels of your fruits. Make sure to check on them during the process to make sure not to over dry - which will make them brittle. Have fun and Happy Dehydrating!

----------  A NOTE ABOUT SPLENDA ----------
I know most people are not a fan of Splenda and you can definitely make these without the use of Splenda, just substitute with your sweetener of choice or just leave the sweetners out completely. I personally use Splenda because I can not eat Sugar - and most of these roll ups I can only eat a little at a time because of the high concentrate of fruit sugars. I am still in the process of trying other sugar alternatives but since I live in a rural area I have to order them over the Internet since they only sell Splenda at our Lil market.

I have also made some with peaches, cinnamon and vanilla yogurt that was delicious! And YES you can make fruit leather with yogurt in it - I was surprised to learn that too!

I used a blender. I just puréed it until it was combined and there were no visible pieces. I did not use any gelatin or pectin as most of them have natural pectin from the apples.

Other than the Splenda( which is very unhealthy) this is great! Perhaps try it with a 'good guy sweetener like Rapadura, Stevia, Sucanat, Evaporated Cane Juice(not evaporated cane juice sugar) or Xylitol!

I have added a Lil note to the bottom of the post as to why I use Splenda, but any sweetener can be used (I just have not tried it with those that you listed). The recipes can also be used without sweetener - except for the cocoa one because you will need something to sweeten the cocoa.

You had me until the Splenda. Why on earth would you use such a toxic ingredient? I have made using agave necter...turned out awesome. Thanks for the recipe suggestions. Please take splenda out of your world...your health will thank you!

I use Splenda because I can not have Sugar and I have friends and family that are diabetic. The recipes can be used without sweetner or you can use the sweetner of your choice. I just have not tried them so I do not know if it will change the drying time or consistency. :)

Look for Stevia.... I use the liquid dropper one from "Now" brand it is by far the best I have tried with the least amount of filler ( alcohol for base ) and the least amount of aftertaste ... It is all natural & completely a safe alternative for diabetics! The best part.... It is 10 times sweeter then sugar & your body does not recognize it as sugar :) no calories!!! Give it a try it works for me & might work for you..... You deffinately have to play with it. Hope this helps.

These look amazing! I don't have a dehydrator, though... Can you make these in the oven?

Here is one of the sources I found for dehydrating fruit using your oven.

Agave works fine.I been making all my Roll ups with Agave. Banana's are sweet enough so I don't add any sweetener. Thanks for you'r Posting. Enjoy to try some new Recipes.

My dehydrator trays have little holes in them. Will these recipes be so liquidy that they drip through the holes? Old dehydrator I inherited from my mother-in-law. They sound yummy! As for the chai seeds...do you use them for consistensy or for nutritional value? I know nothing about them. Thanks for the recipes!

I have one sheet that came with my dehydrator, and the rest I cover my square sheets with parchment paper. It worked well in a pinch, I still might get some so I am not being wasteful. But you can always get some that fit your trays on Amazon.

Thanks for all the great info. Chia seeds? I'm asking before going to Whole Foods or anything but what are these? And thanks for the link for dehydrating in the oven. Yum yum!

Hi Reisha,

I first started adding chia seeds to my smoothies, and then started adding them to make puddings - for me it is mainly for the protein, fiber, and essential vitamin contents. Here is an article that talks about the health benefits of chia seeds - it also has minor side effects listed as well. http://ogglog.com/health/nutrition/chia-seeds-side-effects-and-benefits/

Hi FH, I have a stevia plant which I've just stuck in the ground :)
So that might be something you're interested in. (Your roll-ups look great, thank you!)

I love the addition of chia seeds, my grand daughters love to eat them out of the jar. I also am a stevia convert. Order it from the internet. Just make sure it is pure stevia. We are going to make the fruit leather for a summer project. Cindy
