Rusty Bucket Recycle

Had to share this with ya cause I am super excited about it. I got this bucket from a friends house and the bottom was rotted out, so I buried it a little bit in the ground and planted my strawberry plants in it. I love the rustic-ness of it!

This is my third year trying to grow strawberries - the first year I bought "bulbs" and those didn't do anything at all. The next year I bought plants and they died before I could get them planted. So this year, I am hoping they flourish! I mean, "third times the charm" right? Oh, let's hope so! I am hoping that with the new pretty, rustic bucket and amazing soil, they will produce big and juicy fruits! :)

Getting the Garden Ready

This year has been C-R-A-Z-Y to say the least. So instead of starting my seeds early like I have the last two years, I decided to direct sow a majority of them into the garden and then buy some seedlings from Ricky & Lucy's Country Greenhouse in the next town over. I am so excited to get the garden started. For the direct sow I planted - Okra, Swiss Chard, Parsley, Carrots, Cayenne Peppers, Pablano Peppers, and White & Red Bunching Onions. Today I bought the rest of the plants I needed. The majority being tomato and a few pepper plants. I am praying that the garden does well this year. I love spending time in it - when it's not too hot out. Plus I love watching all the colors pop out from the greens of the plants themselves. I love photographing the process. On days when I am sad or down, I like to look at the bright colors of what has grown in our garden in the past. It reminds me that God makes the most amazing things, with the brightest colors, and the richest tastes.

Tonight's Bounty

Over the weekend I dehydrated Cherry Tomatoes, Hungarian Yellow Wax Peppers, Ancho Chiles, Jalapenos, and a few Romas. I am most excited about the Cherry Tomatoes because those I use as my Sun Dried Tomatoes. I keep them dry and don't place them in the oil - mainly because I want them to last a lot longer. The other one I am excited about are the Ancho Chiles - with those I grind into a spice jar. I use those to have on my eggs, to flavor salsas with, etc. I am so thankful that we have had hotter weather the last few weeks, so our plants can thrive as much as they can before it gets cold. Thank you, Lord!
