Disaster Training

Today was a wild day! Up at 5:00AM to be in the city by 8:00AM, then into make-up for 45 minutes. We were part of an EMS Training Day. We were victims of a large b@mb going off at a rock concert. We each had a role to play. My role included a fractured arm and hysteria. I had no idea how fun this would be. Ok, so I know that sounds kinda weird, but with these training excercises I think it helps the first responders to be more prepared. We were asked to be very realistic. I screamed, cried out, wouldn't stay put, for a good half hour each time. It made me think of what not to do if I am ever in that type of situation. Several times I wanted to apologize to the EMT's because I could tell that I was frustrating them a little with my hysteria. But I was told that in a real scenario, there are people that are that hysterical (and rightfully so). So then I felt a little better.

My hubby was one of the victims as well. Both of his legs were broken, with bones sticking out of the skin. And my friend, Dan, had a head injury and was drunk. My other friend, Polly, had glass embedded in her arm and her leg. Needless to say, the gals that did our make-up were phenomenal! It all looked a little too real (for my taste). It was a great day overall and I think we all learned so much!

Wow! I didn't realize that the injuries were so realistic! I'm so thankful that people take the time to do this because unfortunately we've found out that you have to be prepared to deal with attacks or horrific accidents involving innocent people.
