The garden is coming along pretty nicely. The temperatures are starting to cool off and its starting to feel like Fall is right around the corner! We got a started a little later than most people this last Spring. But since this is our first garden, I am more than happy with its progress!
Yesterday I trimmed back all of our tomato and pepper plants - I was so nervous that I had done too much. So as soon as it got light out this morning I went out to check on them - much to my surprise and excitement - they were all still alive!! And they were starting to ripen. Now I am pretty sure that they were already on their way to ripening, but it was still awesome to see! Especially the Cayenne peppers! I can't wait for those to turn their ruby red so I can dehydrate them! Oh and the Roma tomatoes, I am super super impatient with those :). I want to make salsa with those so bad! Then there are the purple tomatillos (not pictured) - I think those are the ones I am most excited about! And the hardest to wait for. With their "hot air balloon" husks on the outside of the fruit, it is hard to see their progression. So I wait... And wait... The Cinderella pumpkins are doing great and I am getting pretty excited about having these out for decoration in the house and then for seeds and pumpkin purée later. I am just praying they hurry up and ripen before the kids in our town see them. I have heard stories about what has happened to people's pumpkins in years past. Well, I guess I should get back to my cooking. Happy Sunday!
